The FBI (news - web sites) has obtained e-mails exhanged between the hijackers and their associates.
There is new evidence suggesting the terrorists who carried out last week's attacks in New York and Washington used the World Wide Web to help coordinate their deadly efforts.
"They used the Internet and they used it well," an FBI official said of the 19 men who hijacked four passenger airliners last Tuesday, steering three of them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon (news - web sites).
The official, who is heading up the cyber-portion of the investigation, told reporters the bureau had obtained hundreds of unencrypted e-mail messages exchanged by the hijackers and their associates, dating as far back as 30 to 45 days prior to the Sept. 11 attacks.

They kind of already have, cancelling 3 United flights on Saturday and issuing an advisory to watch out for thefts of emergency vehicles.

Well this sure isn't going to hurt the effort to crush all responsible. The fact that the slime who executed the acts have left such a traceable trail, indicates they weren't the brains of the operation. And the operation certainly required brains. It is becoming increasingly clear that there was state involvement in the whole operation. Personally, I hope so. It is much easier to target a country than a "group". LET'S ROLL!!!!!

I don't think I would go near a college football game this weekend. Notice how the FAA has been very quick to grant requests to restrict airspace over football stadiums. I find it kind of odd that the news is coming out that Saturday 9/22 may be a day of action for the terrorists. There do not seem to be many logical targets on the weekend besides a football game, unless its biological with a town water supply or something, then day of the week would not really matter. Is there any religious signifigance to 9/22?

I'm still wondering if the raid in Dallas gave them all this wonderful information. I surely hope so. And, I believe the arrests and detainments have kept the terrorists from fulfilling the rest of their plans (at least that's what I'm counting on).

A local independent station here in San Diego (KUSI), had a report this morning about the security around our nuclear plant (San Onofre); just up the coast from San Diego. They said very little, but I did hear there is a military ship (what kind was not said) stationed off the coast from the plant. I wonder if they have been tipped from the FBI?

Gee, no encryption? I thought for certain that they'd have to whine about how hard it is with all of the evil people using encryption.
They need to have reasons to crack down on it once they get back to harrassing citizens.
Now before I get mobbed by a bunch of patriots, let me say that what the FBI is doing right now is ok by me. If they had been chasing down illegals and investigating large, multi-state organizations that commit crimes against citizens instead of poking their noses into every local crime that was properly the purview of state and local authorities I wouldn't be so worried.
But hey, maybe I'm just pessimistic. Maybe once all of the terrorists in the US are captured the FBI will continue to work on multi-state, organized crime and leave the policing to the the police that are hired and fired by our communities.
And I could win the lottery.

No particular meaning, it's an odd number and it's prime. This has no religious significance, as both eleven and 22 do in Biblical mysticism.
Yesterday we saw the crescent moon starting the month of Rajab. Two months to Ramadan, the fasting month. When you look for dates significant to muslims, you need to look at the lunar calendar, not the solar calendar.
Let's see now -- numerology is meaningless to muslims, you wonder whether numerology has some meaning to the terrorists. The solar calendar is meaningless to muslims, you don't even know about the lunar calendar.
So on the basis of all this wild out-of-the-ball-park speculation, on the basis of no knowledge at all, you think muslims had something to do with the terror?

I saw some shows dedicate to the blacks..African Americans, that have served our country well. They were fascinating, and had to wait far too long for recognition! They went after the balloon bombs too.
But if you're trying infer I'm racist. Forget it. You're barking up the wrong tree. I do work with some mentally impaired people on Saturday's. Taking them places, dinner, shopping, train rides. One is Greek, another Black. Early on, (J) The black gentleman, took $100 from my purse. One of my friends was with us that day. And I whispered what had occured when I noticed the money gone, when I was paying for the food.
We decided to see if he would give it back on his own. I had planned to take everyone to the zoo the following weekend for (J's) birthday. So, I mentioned at the table, that I had lost some money, and wasn't sure if I'd be able to take everyone to the zoo next week.
Oh he looked a little nervous, but nothing. After we finished eating we went out and made a show of searching the car, and all that. We had another stop to make so we went there. We were standing around outside, and talking about the money. Finally (J) came up to me crying. He gave me the money back. I hugged him and told him it was ok. That he did the right thing in giving it back, and that it didn't change anything. That I was still his friend, and that he was still welcome to go with us on Saturdays.
I like people. I don't care what color, what religion, what age. I LIKE PEOPLE. I start conversations with strangers all the time. And I particularly like talking to people from different cultures.
So take your insinuation and stuff it!

What tech savvy? they used unencrypted e-mails and chat rooms. just like any person with a computer on his desk can do. There is so much conflating of these people's ability. its alsmost like people are in denial as to how simple and easy some of the logistical aspects of this operation were.

I'd like to apologize for being a bit too hard on you (my #36).
The point is that we do have groups that need watching in THIS country, too. The point being that we can't just go after the snakes across the street, and leave the one's in our garage, or we are going to get nowhere.
Having said that we cannot blame ALL muslims for the actions of the fundamentals (racist) terrorists.

Many Middle Easterners in the USA are Christians who have left or fled the Middle East because in Islamic societies they were either directly persecuted or at best second class citizens. They have come to the West because they were longing for freedom and are absolutely loyal citizens, ready to defend their country as much as any other American. It would be a horrendous injustice to attack them verbally or physically just because they look Middle Eastern.
There are more than six million Muslims living in the USA today. They are largely normal people with hopes and fears, who just want to make a living, who work hard and honest to bring bread on the table and to allow their children to go to college. They also want to live in peace and would never think of committing terrorist acts. Most of them are themselves in utter shock as result of these atrocities. They have done nothing to deserve the hatred of other Americans. They are not guilty, and it is the duty of any upright, freedom loving person to stand up for them, even to give them shelter in their own homes, should others threaten to make them victims of self-appointed revenge.
The greatness of a society built on Christian values shows itself when it will not discriminate for any reason on the basis of race, culture or religion, even when attacked by some people from one specific group. America wants to be a champion of human rights around the world, and needs to make sure, she holds herself accountable to the same standards.
For Christians particularly, we have the command of our Lord to love our neighbor as ourselves; any neighbor, not only those who are like us. But we are called to particularly care for those who are disadvantaged or discriminated against and to stand up for those who can't defend themselves. And at this time this might well include Muslims in our neighborhood who are faced with and might suffer from unreflected anger of other Americans.

Now if that isn't Genesis 9:27, I haven't read enough. Here is a nation founded in the tents of Shem, and largely the people of this nation remain in the houses of Christianity, whether they agree with the particular theological doctrines of their denominations or not. And Jewish Americans of all three great wings of American Judaism remain likewise and do not, in their hearts, support the ill conduct of their co-religionists or those who claim to be.
But neither are Americans heartless to denounce someone without evidence of guilt, so that we cast them out of our communities or, as in days of old, stone them. Perhaps we all should be more vigilant to eject from our company those who disobey the Lord, however we might understand that, but we are a merciful people of a Merciful God and grateful to Him for His Favor on us, all of us. Lax and improper vigilance has always been our common and most prominent failing.
And there are a few among each community of us who are ... perhaps I should not attempt to generalize, you know who they are.
I think we need to find those who are supportive and tolerant of people who do not share their faith, and are told by their own religion to be tolerant, and we need to find those who despise people who do not share their faith, and are told by their own religion to despise them. It's not hard, I don't think, to find that in Scripture, and it might be a significant clue to last Tuesday's terror -- which was most certainly not a muslim attack, we are specifically told to protect the Children of Israel and the helpers of Jesus.

Freepers, I know this poster from the computer privacy and internetworking security newsgroups hosted by Steve Gibson, who is currently helping the FBI -- at their request and in conjunction with the National Infrastructure Protection Center -- search for leads to those behind the Tuesday terrorist attack. At the request of the National Security Council through CERT (I've forgotten what that stands for), Steve Gibson has also written a basic introduction to what Americans will need to do in order to do their part in the cyber war that is also being waged by the terrorists. It will be public in a short time, you can read it now on Steve's newsgroups .
This post is *not* representative of news.grc.com/grc.news.feedback where we were discussing the Ida Code Red Worm and more lately the nimda worm, and in one newsgroup the terror war launched against America.
