[to The Opening]

Surah 74.  Al-Muddaththir

In the name of ALLAH, the Benevolent, the Merciful

1.  O you wrapped up,

2.  Arise and warn!

3.  Your Lord magnify,

4.  Your raiment purify,

5.  Pollution shun!

6.  And show no favor expecting gain!

7.  For the sake of your Lord, be patient!

8.  For when the trumpet shall sound,

9.  Surely that day will be a day of anguish,

10.  Not of ease, for deniers.

11.  Leave Me alone with him whom I created,

12.  then gave him ample means,

13.  And sons abiding in his presence

14.  And made smooth for him.

15.  Yet he desires that I should give more.

16.  No!  For Surely he is inimical to Our Revelations.

17.  I will make a fearful doom overtake him.

18.  For Surely he did consider; then he planned

19.  destroyed is he, how he planned!

20.  Again destroyed is he, how he planned!

21.  Then he looked,

22.  Then frowned and showed displeasure.

23.  Then turned away in pride

24.  And said:  This is nothing but ancient magic;

25.  This is nothing but mortal speech.

26.  Him shall I fling to the burning.

27.  Ah, what will convey to you what that burning is!

28.  It leaves nothing; It spares nothing

29.  It shrivels the man.

30.  Above it are nineteen.

31.  We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling block for those who deny; that those to whom the scripture has been given may have certainty, and that the faithful may increase in faith; and that those to whom The Book has been given and the faithful may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and deniers, may say:  What does ALLAH mean by this metaphor?  Thus ALLAH sends astray whom He will, and whom He will He Guides.  None knows the hosts of your Lord save Him.  This is nothing else than a Reminder to mortals.
