The Islamic Society of North America

On September 29, 2003, Abdurahman Alamoudi, Executive Director of the American Muslim Foundation (AMF), was arrested at Dulles Airport in Sterling, Virginia (just outside the Metropolitan Washington, D.C., area), after having returned from a tour of Arab countries where he participated in a variety of Islamic programs.  He had combined this schedule with the leisure of having his family with him.

His arrest continues the ominous actions against American Muslims by the US government which first intensified in 1996 with the passage of The Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act which approved the use of secret evidence.  This law was used to institute "star chamber" proceedings against Muslims and Arabs who were incarcerated for as long as four or five years, not knowing the charges against them, the witnesses, the "evidence," the testimony, or even the judge's decision in its entirety.

American authorities and security agencies have persisted in treating Muslims and Arabs as if they are all guilty until proven innocent.

Why do so many Americans hate Muslims?  Is it because of 9/11?

Dr. Ahmed Yousef is Editor-in-Chief of the Middle East Affairs Journal.
Betty Molchany, J.D., is a retired attorney.

A thorough depiction of the situation in America of the muslims of the immigrant~assimilationist demographic, whose ancestors arrived on these shores from the terminally-collapsed millennial muslim world as it fell into chaos and tyranny.  The earliest came well over a century ago, and the successive waves of immigration to America from formerly muslim lands have been nearly continuous ever since.

But there is more to the picture of Muslim America than those who suffer today from their own success and the envy it stirred among people already hostile before they arrived, who were waiting for them.

For these muslims, it's disaster against their vaunted ambitions and pretensions, the fruit of heedless political alliance they thought was based on faith instead of treachery.  For Americans in general, it's a portent of things to come and a warning of how it's been done.

The message from official America to the Islamic and Arab community is unmistakable:  Muslims are not welcome to live in or visit the United States ...

The message from the American people to the muslim community is also unmistakable:  Muslims are not only welcome, we are cherished at least equally with other Americans, respected at least as much as other Americans, and increasingly, since 9/11, joined by other Americans who find Islam to be more like the American way of life than they had found any other faith to be.

Islam was the fastest-growing religious community in America for decades before the Treachery of the Two Towers and the Pentagram.  After the Treachery the growth has increased by a factor of four.  Those are the facts on the ground in the grass roots ~ why don't these people know that?  Are they so focused on Washington politics and prominence that they don't know what's going on in the Muslim America they claim to represent?

What is the difference here between the "Islamic and Arab community" under definite systematic political attack by "official America" and the "muslim community" now swelling in numbers with Americans who are discovering that they themselves are muslim?

And the message seems to be "Muslims ~ stay out of our pork barrel political pie."  Whose message is that?

Why do so many Americans hate Muslims?  Is it because of 9/11?

Who?  Where?  Where are all these Americans who "hate muslims"?  Radio talk show hosts and Washington bureaucrats and ambitious politicians are not representative of what's happening on the ground in the grass roots, where Americans have surrounded mosques to protect the muslims from any possible post-Towers backlash, which largely did not occur.  The only substantial "backlash" against muslims from the Treachery has originated within the Justice Department and has been aimed at muslims who are politically active and prominent in the "Islamic and Arab community" ~ that's who is being discussed in this article.

It has been action directed specifically against the infrastructure institutions developed by these muslims over the last thirty years ~ charities, lobbying organizations, political action committees, think tanks, and what Yousef and Molchany describe as an elite leadership of America's muslims, after ~ initially ~ some visiting Arabs and other muslims who had not consolidated their immigration status.

But these people are talking about a particular group of those organizations, initiated after they became dissatisfied with organizations before their time:

Because of this, Alamoudi left SAAR and founded, in 1990, the American Muslim Council (AMC), which may be considered as the first Islamic political institution in the US.

Excuse me?  I was a founding charter member of the League of Muslim Voters set up in Chicago in the early Eighties, and it was not the first "Islamic political institution" in the US even then.

In the mid-Sixties, four muslim students decided to defy the diplomatic ban on conducting Friday prayer services in public on American college campuses and to gain space in the Student Union, founded the Muslim Students' Association ~ which spread throughout the university system like wildfire.  Shortly it became, through Saudi funding, The Muslim Students' Association of the United States and Canada, headquartered at Plainfield, Indiana, which was transformed later into The Islamic Society of North America there.  It set up the North American Islamic Trust to hold ownership of over a thousand mosques and Islamic Centers across the United States built or acquired with Saudi funding.  It included professional associations for medical doctors, social scientists, engineers, and others.

It was run by elections.  The entire leadership strata had rigged the membership lists so that each of their family members had as many memberships as they had had residence addresses in America ~ some of the older leaders cast as many as thirty-six votes in a block from their household, it was a complete oligarchy run out of Rabetat-al-'Alam-al-Islamiyyah, the main Saudi funding agency for religious organizations worldwide.

There is no way it could not be called an "Islamic political institution" except, of course, for the internal politics and voting.

It was followed by the rival Council of Masajid of the United States and the rival Islamic Circle of North America and countless local, regional and national organizations among America's muslims.  These were all political institutions, heavily engaged in their local and regional political affairs and with national scope to their ambitions and coalitions.

I and my peers and successors have been founding charter members of over half of those organizations.  We occupy offices across the spectrum.  We're watching Ashcroft's minions join the communities right now today, salting spies and penetration agents provocateur and enemies throughout the immigrant-assimilationist demographic.  The Jews are right there with him and they preceded him by thirty years, and we watched that, too.

We weren't born yesterday, look how Ashcroft is continually diving into a Black Hole in the middle of nowhere.  He's found nothing because there's nothing to find.  It's purely political attack just as the article says ~ from the zionist loyalists of Israel in American government, and anybody remotely associated with the history of Islam and Judaism in America knows it from facts on the ground.

al-Amoudi and his peers are a new generation doing it their own way ~ the way Professor Sarna of Brandeis set up in 1989 with his plan for American Judaism to mentor muslims into the political arena.  And now they're being taken down.  What's the surprise?  We told their fathers about this.

And therein lies the basis of their problem.  1990 is only about two generations late, and the claim of "the first Islamic political institution" is utterly blind and for some, a denial of what they know of indigenous American muslims who to them remain strangers.

To be fair, the bulk of the muslims of the immigrant and assimilation demographic remain ~ today, they remain ~ blissfully ignorant of what I here disclose as history well-known to the leaders and founders of their institutional matrices.  It will come to many as a shock, incredible, a blindness of such magnitude as to be unthinkable.  They are not blameworthy for all of the malignancy that has resided among them, or been added from ambitions of others abroad, since their arrival.

Muslims who have come to America have been welcomed by muslims already in America for as long as they have been arriving.  Every available hospitality has been shown to newly-arriving muslims who reach these shores.  Thorough depictions of the way things work in America ~ the various forms of corruption of public affairs related not only to muslims and Islam, which are fully entrenched as this article shows, but also related to every walk of life ~ have been given to those who arrive.

All this knowledge of life in America ~ accumulated and delivered by people whose families were disfranchised and excluded from the American mainstream for generations ~ has been rejected on the basis of preconceived notions about America already in the minds of those who have come here.  The welcome and hospitality and aid in establishing solid foundations for muslim life in America have been systematically rejected by a complete set of westernized elitist, racist attitudes completely alien to Islam that has permeated the successive waves of immigrant muslims.

The problem became almost immediately apparent:  These people did not come to America to be muslims in freedom as they now pretend their predecessors did.  They came for other freedoms and left their religion behind, and rediscovered it piecemeal after accomplishing ~ or more often failing to accomplish ~ the integration and assimilation for which they actually came.  They bought into The American Dream and never realized, it now appears, that it is a white skin privilege in America where it exists at all beyond a tokenism that allows perpetuation of the mythology.

And the Islam they found among the muslims who met them and welcomed them and received them in complete brotherhood, glad of the opportunity to be hosts to them while ALLAH established them in the land, was an Islam they neither recognized nor accepted.  It has effectively disappeared from their homelands ~ from which they fled to America for that very reason, that it was gone from there before they were born.

They imagined we only accepted Islam for the charity.  We accepted Islam for ambition.  We accepted Islam for the four wives fantasies.  We were beggars, we were thieves, we wanted to rape their virgin daughters and blacken their skins.  We wanted to take over their lives and tell them what to do like the corrupt "religious" rulers of their homelands did.  We were social outcasts, the poor, the workers, uneducated, despised by the people "of substance" in America.  We were anything at all ~ but muslims.

Only they, with their Arabic tongues and libraries and mullahs and priests of all varieties, could possibly be muslim, it is well-known that anyone in America could only be pretending.  From Kano, Nigeria in Black Africa a government minister, black as the Ace of Spades, writes to an indigenous white-skinned American muslim corresponding with his widowed daughter "How can you be muslim?  It is well-known that Negroes cannot become muslims."  But we black and white niggers live on streets paved with gold and who knows ~ maybe with expert Arabic tutelage of someone fleeing tyranny, we could make good domestic servants, we who imagine we're muslim.

This is what came to us from the millennial muslim world.  And it was demographic-wide, a group-think collective mentality that was completely impenetrable by us "not-muslims" ~ other than clean white apple-pie nine-to-five American anything-but-muslims.

Never mind that we prayed beside them five times a day, broke the Ramadan fast with them, cleaned their houses and washed their cars and the crime:  accepted their charity.  That was sufficient to "prove" our insincerity and pretense.

Ask a muslim whether he has any daughters ready for marriage.  That will tell you a lot.

The purpose was to channel the resources and potential of the Muslim community in America in a way that would involve them in local, state, and federal civic responsibilities and into the American political process as well.

Precisely what indigenous American muslims doing precisely that invited them to join, in progress, when they first set foot in America.

He often said each of us has a duty to share civic responsibilities, that Muslims should work jointly with Americans of other faiths for the betterment of all.

But not with Americans of their own faith unless they received that faith from them, in their conflicted sectarian versions brought with them from lands fallen into tyranny and chaos from abandonment of Islam.

But apart from these minor divergences from the religion they didn't bring with them, they did fine.

They found muslims to their liking among the American people.  The Islamic Society of North America had twin programs seeking out proselytes among black Americans ~ who formed the bulk of the muslims they rejected ~ and among white Americans ~ who attracted them because of purely cultural reasons:  they see white Americans as "true Americans."  Some might call that racist.  We certainly did.  But they continued to occupy prominence and attracted Americans to brand-new shiny mosques built for the best of reasons with Saudi religious funding.  And they do well in them.

They gather the indigenous American muslims who can be easily deceived and take care of them, keeping them out of the way.  They attract those who think Islam is prayer beads and incense and family picnics in the park and the subtle mysticism of wagging a finger while sitting at the end of the prayer.  They marry our foxy pious daughters and spread the seed of Abraham throughout the American population where it can diffuse and never forget Abraham.

They replace American wage slavery with menial sinecures that are just slightly better but largely out of the Fire, and put their new muslim employees at podiums in white robes reciting lyrical prose without the least scrap of understanding or practical merit.  They even capitalized a business or two to lift someone out of middle-class "poverty" ~ a publishing house that parrots the proper partisan sectarian dogma did fine, a service station or a meat market is always a convenience.

They dare not admit that they think they've been entered into Paradise, these indigenous American muslims, and maybe they have and the "Arabs" (generic referring to the entire demographic class) have given them that for the best of intentions.

They follow their own inclinations among their own people behind their own leaders like any other tax-paying population and they collect their own religiously obligatory charity and distribute it among their own people like any other muslim population.  They exhibit Islam as it can be practiced in America and only in America under peaceful and amicable relations with all communities.  They showcase a glimpse of what awaits America tomorrow for whoever wishes to choose Him however they call upon Him.

They revel in pageantry and freedom and liberty and raise their young with literate stories of the chosen of God.  They establish prayer and pay the dues and fast the month and send countless people on pilgrimage every year.  They show their gratitude to ALLAH for what He has given them by spreading charity wherever they go and wherever they can send it.  They walk around with a handful of hundred-dollar-bills in their pockets to give away whenever they get the chance.  They smile and spread happiness and give good counsel when they're asked for any by anyone.

These are good people.  These are God's people we're talking about here ~ they bear the fruits of the Kingdom and pass them out with a free hand, not counting or seeking recompense or favor or obligation.

The enemies of humanity were waiting for them when they got here.

They avoid strategic direction of their leadership by indigenous American shaykhs and 'ulemaa and spurn as misguided the protection ALLAH demands of the faithful and the mujahideen arrayed and fielded before they arrived, none of which is mandatory on them to accept from us, they have never been anything but free to go their own way.

This is where it has led them.  They are sitting ducks.  And the wolf is among the sheep, bleating and pulling the wool over their eyes for the slaughter.

And among them are a few indigenous American muslims who don't have a clue.  But they sure look good.  They probably are.

May God protect all of them.

But they were not left alone or without a warning about this land and what it contains.  They didn't keep faith with the strangers ALLAH had prepared for them.  And the last thing they would do is direct an American openly seeking Islam to an indigenous American muslim who's been mercifully raised and painfully schooled and professionally trained and authoritatively commissioned and explicitly commanded to teach it to Americans.  No, that would just never do, we're not qualified, we don't speak Arabic.

Rudderless, indecisive, prey to every partisan agenda dressed up in oily greenbacks or sitting near seats of authority in the nation of denial, they rose ~ of course they rose, they were raised for the purpose of throwing them down ~ and now they're being used to terrorize Americans away from seeking the truth.

God save the American people.  These muslims could not.

And now, as the Yousef~Molchany article shows, they've discovered America.  The Land of Promise, and now they meet the real promise.

We tried to warn them.  We live here.

But why is it so important to American Judaism that Americans be turned away from finding out about muslims?  Is it just Palestine, or is there more?  Americans are finding out ....
